GAVI Alliance/Child Vaccines
Every year, 8.8 million children under age 5 die from preventable or treatable conditions. Nearly 40 percent of these deaths are caused by two diseases — pneumonia and diarrhea.
We now have new vaccines to prevent these two diseases, but we don’t have the funding to get the vaccinations to kids who need them.
Working with the GAVI Alliance, the U.S. can ensure these vaccines save the lives of 4.2 million children by 2015. This new vaccination campaign needs a $450 million U.S. investment over the next three years. The GAVI Alliance has already vaccinated more than 300 million children for other diseases over the past 10 years, and we want to build on that success.
Donors will meet in London on June 13 for the GAVI Alliance pledging conference. Will the representative please write to President Obama requesting a U.S. pledge of $450 million over three years? I have helpful background documents and a sample letter that I would be happy to provide.
