January Congressional Staff Delegation to Bangladesh and India a Success

In January, RESULTS Educational Fund organized an educational trip to Bangladesh and India for congressional staffers who work on global health and foreign affairs. The purpose of these educational trips is to provide congressional staff with a firsthand experience of the progress and challenges faced by developing countries trying to addressing these issues, as well as the impact of U.S. government support for these programs. The trip included field visits and discussions with officials from the governments of Bangladesh and India, relevant U.S. government officials, and civil society organizations and advocates.

Chehera: The Human Face of TB

It would be simpler to deal with tuberculosis if it just attacked the lungs and bodies of its victims, but TB takes an even heavier toll on the heart and mind of those who contract it. In India, the stigma and isolation are symptoms just as painful as the coughing and emaciation. The emotional toll of the disease is rarely conveyed to those who don’t experience it personally. Last year, on World TB Day, ACTION Partner Global Health Advocates India worked with the Art for Change Foundation and the Confederation of Indian Industries to bring 22 artists into firsthand experience with the human toll of TB and paint what they saw. The resulting ‘Chehera: The Human Face of TB’ Exhibition takes viewers on a emotional whirlwind through the horrors and hopes of life with TB.

Marking a "Polio Free" Year in India

A year has passed by since the last wild polio case was detected in India. Indian investment and global support have brought things to this critical watershed moment. The next challenge is to maintain another 24 months of polio free status to truly be able to say that endemic wild polio transmission in India is a thing of the past, and to use the experience and infrastructure to raise the rates of immunization coverage among all children for the other diseases for which vaccines are available.
