Week of Action on Education is April 19–23: Create a Local Buzz

The Week of Action on Education is a big week for getting kids in school around the globe. There will be a major legislative event on April 21, a national media call, and people around the U.S. and around the globe will be bringing attention to the power of education. Here are your Week of Action resources (including lesson plans, action sheet, media advisory, education Jeopardy game), and here is a list of activities below that will help you create a buzz. Organizing activities in your community will create interest for your local media — you can become the local angle for a media story.

• Teach a lesson at a local school using the Global Week of Action Toolkit and/or Education Jeopardy game. Invite your media to cover.
• Organize an education and action meeting for community members using a segment from Back to School and our April Action Sheet. Get your Reps. to cosponsor the bill.
• Invite your media to be on a national media call to get the scoop on what’s happen outside your community on global education (press packet coming soon).
• Partner with other organizations working on the Education for All Act: National Peace Corps Association, American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association.
• Partner with others in your community who are supporting schools in developing nations to share stories and take action.

April Global Conference Call is This Saturday, April 10 at 2 pm ET

Join the conference call this weekend where we will highlight upcoming opportunities to push the Education for All agenda forward. Guest speakers will be Joanna Kuebler, Director, Global Campaign for Education, U.S. Adon Adon, a student from Warren Wilson College, will also share her story of the long path she has taken from Tibet to the U.S. to get her education. Take Action: Ask Your Senators to Sign on to the Bipartisan International Affairs Budget Letter

According to a bipartisan group of senators: “A robust International Affairs Budget reinforces the continued bipartisan commitment of Congress and current and past Administrations to invest in the strategic tools that are essential to strengthen our national security, foster economic growth, and promote America’s moral leadership.”

Use our International Affairs Action Alert to call your senators and ask them to sign on to the letter. Both parties agree that a strong international affairs budget is important to our moral standing, economic growth, and national security.
