RESULTS/RESULTS Educational Fund (REF) is seeking a highly competent, enthusiastic Operations Intern to be hired immediately. This is an unpaid position.
The operations intern will assist the Office Manager with a variety of duties, including planning a major international conference with hundreds of participants in Washington, D.C. This position will have numerous opportunities for initiative and growth.
Responsibilities:
Support planning and coordination of a major International Conference in Washington, D.C:
- Register participants over the phone and take down information regarding payment method. Review registration forms as they come into the office and follow up as needed.
- Edit, copy, and prepare conference packets, including background information on poverty issues and logistical information.
- Serve as lead coordinator on numerous conference logistics.
- Create and proofread many conference materials, including programs, schedules, speaker biographies, and more.
- Create display signs for the conference.
- Assist with the management of conference volunteers.
- Attend conference-planning meetings, take notes, and coordinate follow up actions.
Other support for Office Manager:
- Organize monthly mailings to RESULTS/REF volunteers.
- Assist in planning national conference calls with RESULTS/REF volunteers.
- Manage ordering and tracking of office supplies.
- Maintain various logs for internal business use.
- Assemble materials for staff meetings.
- Manage large database of volunteers and donors.
- Prepare materials and packets for staff and guests.
Qualifications
- Ability to work on a team and willingness to pitch in whenever a job needs to get done.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially a good telephone manner.
- Professional approach to actions and attire at all times. Punctuality is a must.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of people including conference guests, conference organizers and hotel staff.
- Ability to pick up instructions quickly, and deliver work calmly and effectively in a high-pressured environment.

Domestic Intern — Fall 2010
Duties listed are subject to change based on interest and organizational needs. This internship is unpaid and requires at least a 2.5 month commitment. We are collecting applications for fall 2010, with preference given to candidates who can begin in mid-August.
Responsibilies
#1: Collaborate on strategic planning for both legislative strategy and grassroots expansion of RESULTS in the U.S.
- Participate in weekly Domestic team meetings and help strategize on U.S. Poverty Campaigns. This may include message development, grassroots expansion planning, and legislative/advocacy planning.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and other staff gatherings.
- Attend briefings, conferences, and other meetings on behalf of RESULTS and providing the domestic team with notes and recommended strategies from such meetings.
- Set up lobby meetings with members of the intern’s congressional delegation to urge action on our campaigns.
#2: Provide support to RESULTS volunteers via existing system of conference calls, weekly action alerts, e-mail networks and monthly newsletters. Activities may include:
- Write and edit weekly e-mail updates, action sheets for our monthly newsletter, website backgrounders, action alerts, and other written communications.
- Provide materials requested by RESULTS volunteers to assist them in their campaign work.
- Assist in planning and producing monthly national conference calls (second Saturday of every month).
- Participate in occasional evening training calls with our grassroots network.
- Participate in generating media coverage that is supportive of our campaigns. This may include helping plan and organize issue-specific conference calls for editorial writers and other journalists, writing and editing background materials for media campaigns, contacting media outlets and providing them with necessary information, as well as supporting RESULTS volunteers in their efforts to generate local media.
- Assist in the development of written materials including press releases and background information for media campaigns, grassroots communications (such as legislative updates) and policy briefs for internal or external use when needed.
- Participate in grassroots support of targeted campaigns. Often RESULTS will construct a focused and intensive campaign to accomplish specific short- and long-term goals. The intern will likely be involved in supporting grassroots on these campaigns.
- Lay groundwork for starting a RESULTS chapter on campus after the completion of the DC internship.
#3: Administrative work.
- RESULTS will make every effort to minimize the level of administrative work for the intern. However, some will be required.

- Knowledge of/interest in welfare reform or asset development.
- Knowledge of/interest in legislative process.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong research skills, especially ability to find resources on the World Wide Web.
- Ability to motivate self and others.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Global Legislative Intern — Fall 2010
This position could be part-time (15–20 hours a week).
Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Experience and/or interest in advocacy and/or international development/poverty issues.
- At a minimum, a second year undergraduate student, preferably in international development/affairs, public health, political science, communications/journalism, or other related fields.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong writing, proofreading, editing, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail are absolutely necessary.
- Strong knowledge and experience with all Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to clearly and effectively articulate ideas.
- A willingness to learn and try new things.
- Must be personable and work well with others.
