Asia Bijan Thompson, RESULTS Expert on Poverty

Kevin Pearson, RESULTS Expert on Poverty

Dawn Pierce, RESULTS Expert on Poverty

Kristy Martino, Grassroots Organizer, U.S. Poverty Campaigns, RESULTS

Too often, we rely on statistics to prove a point, forgetting that each one of those numbers is a person with his or her own unique and powerful story. During this session, you will hear from people who have experienced poverty firsthand. These brave individuals will help us understand the complexities of poverty. These stories will teach us how our policies connect to each other, bring a touch of emotion and realism to our work, and reaffirm the importance of engaging more real experts in our anti-poverty advocacy.

Going the Last Mile (Sunday, July 23, 8:30 am  — 10:00 am ET)

Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President, World Bank Group

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, Founder and Chairman, BRAC

Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director, RESULTS

For 45 years, BRAC has been a pioneer in reaching vulnerable families including those living in ultra poverty with opportunities to expand livelihoods, access to healthcare and nutrition, and education. Now that the World Bank has set the global goal to address these challenging obstacles faced by millions around the world by 2030, it is critical to understand the path ahead and the increasing challenges that will be faced in pursuing that goal, through to the last mile. Special thanks to BRAC for sponsoring this session.

The Wake-Up Call Has Come — But How Do We Answer It? (Sunday, 10:30 am — 11:30 am ET)

Michael Blake, New York Assemblyman from the 79th District & Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee

Frances Moore Lappé, Author

Khadijah Gurnah, Campaigns Director, Moms Rising

Ken Patterson, Director, Global Grassroots Advocacy, RESULTS

It’s become clear to many people that we cannot be democracy spectators if we want a nation and world that work for everyone. But becoming effective advocates takes patience, time, courage, and the right approach. In this plenary, we’ll learn from organizing experts who are doing the day-to-day work of building effective movements, and who have informed macro-views of what it takes to engage those who are ready, and sustain their engagement.
