Statement on the Nomination of Ambassador Mark Green as Next USAID Administrator
Washington, DC, May 11, 2017 — In response to the White House's nomination of Ambassador Mark Green for Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund, released the following statement:
Ambassador Mark Green is an exceptional candidate for the next leader of USAID. Throughout his career in public service, Ambassador Green has been a champion for U.S. leadership to fight poverty and disease around the world. I can think of no better person to lead this transformational work, and to ensure continued bipartisan support for foreign assistance and a strong, independent USAID.
For decades, USAID support has helped its country partners to get millions more children in school, increase access to quality nutrition, put the world within reach of the end of preventable maternal and child deaths, and much more. As a longstanding champion of this work, Ambassador Green is exceedingly well-positioned to build on recent progress and move us closer to the end of poverty.
We are committed to working with Congress to reverse the draconian cuts proposed by the administration to the International Affairs budget, making sure USAID has the resources it needs to advance the fight against global poverty.
