RESULTS Board Chair Appointed Co-Chair of Every Woman Every Child Independent Accountability Panel
Washington, DC, September 21, 2016 — The Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General has appointed RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund Board Chair Kul Chandra Gautam as a new Co-Chair of the UN Every Woman Every Child Independent Accountability Panel, where he will serve alongside Dr. Carmen Barroso.
The Panel is tasked with producing an annual report on the state of child, adolescent, and women’s health, which will guide the implementation of the Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health, as well as the implementation of the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund Executive Director Dr. Joanne Carter released the following statement:
“I’m thrilled that Kul Gautam will be taking on this important leadership role helping ensure the world’s progress on women and children’s health. As we look ahead to 2030, our success on women’s and children’s health will depend on the world’s leadership, focus, and effective investment starting today. It’s been my great honor to work with Kul Gautam for more than 25 years, beginning with his time at UNICEF, where he played a central role in the 1990 World Summit for Children, and today in his role as our Board Chair. His focus on impact and equity and his experience in helping drive progress for women and children will be tremendous assets to this distinguished panel.
The Independent Accountability Panel will help ensure that collectively we do what it takes to reach the SDGs, focusing the world’s attention on the poorest and most vulnerable women and children to drive ambitious and tangible progress. As we move ahead, civil society and independent accountability mechanisms like this one will help keep us on track to reaching our shared goals. Under the leadership of Kul Gautam and Dr. Carmen Barroso, I look forward to this panel helping the world clearly assess our progress, identify challenges, and chart the path forward.”
About RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund:
RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund are sister organizations that, together, are a leading force in ending poverty in the United States and around the world. We create long-term solutions to poverty by supporting programs that address its root causes — lack of access to health, education, or opportunity to move up the economic ladder. We empower ordinary people to become extraordinary voices for the end of poverty in their communities, the media, and the halls of government. The collective voices of these passionate grassroots activists leverage millions of dollars for programs and improved policies that give low-income people the tools they need to move out of poverty.
