ACTION Project

The Advocacy to Control Tuberculosis Internationally (ACTION) project is an international partnership of advocates working to mobilize resources to treat and prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB), a global disease that kills one person every 20 seconds. ACTION’s underlying premise is that more rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic by building increased support for resources for effective TB control among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries (HBCs) and donor countries. It is a project of RESULTS Educational Fund.

U.S. Government

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)

USAID’s history goes back to the Marshall Plan reconstruction of Europe after World War Two and the Truman administration’s Point Four Program. In 1961, the Foreign Assistance Act was signed into law and USAID was created by executive order. Since that time, USAID has been the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms.

International Partnerships

World Health Organization — Stop TB Department

The World Health Organization is the United Nations specialized agency for health. WHO’s objective is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. The Stop TB Department’s new six-point strategy, developed by WHO over a two-year period, builds on the successes of DOTS while also addressing the key challenges facing TB control in providing access to TB treatment and care, including TB/HIV and MDR-TB patients. The new strategy also seeks to strengthen health systems, engage all care providers, empower people with TB and communities, and promote research.

Stop TB Partnership

The Stop TB Partnership was established in 2000 to realize the goal of eliminating TB as a public health problem and, ultimately, to obtain a world free of TB. It comprises a network of international organizations, countries, donors from the public and private sectors, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and individuals that have expressed an interest in working together to achieve this goal.
