Fund the Global Fight

2010 will be critical in determining if the Global Fund will be allowed to accelerate its successful efforts or be forced to curb its growth- with dire consequences for AIDS, TB, and malaria. This year other donors will make three-year funding commitments as part of the Global Fund's replenishment conference, held every three years. The Global Fund currently projects an $8 billion need for new and continuing programs in FY2010.

The U.S. has historically provided nearly one-third of all contributions to the Global Fund. While the U.S. “fair share” for FY 2010 is $2.7 billion, the President’s budget flat-lines Global Fund spending at $900 million. As the largest contributor to the Global fund, our FY11 allocation will send an important signal to other donors. The United States has played a pivotal role in the Global Fund’s success, and Congress must lead to ensure this progress continues.
