Take Action

It is critical that the Obama Administration take a leadership role in creating a Global Fund for Education with other international partners. By demonstrating that there is widespread support for a Global Fund for Education through letters, op-eds and media outreach we can help to move education up the agenda to achieve Education for All.

Take Action Today!

Action #1. Tell the President: Call and Write on December 10

Join the U.S. Chapter of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) during the December 10 Day of Action to call and write to President Obama urging him to include $2 billion for the Global Fund for Education in his next budget (fiscal year 2011).

Call On December 10: Call the White House switchboard at (202) 456-1414 and leave a message. Sample message: "I support education for all and President Obama's pledge to budget two billion dollars for a Global Fund for Education. I would like to seem him put this money in his next budget and take leadership on global education in 2011." Leave your name, city, and state.

Write today through December 10: Fill-out a petition that will be delivered in bulk to the White House on December 10.

Download the RESULTS-GCE petition (one page large version or 4x4 version for easier printing) and send it back to RESULTS by December 10, and we'll give it to GCE to deliver.

For friends that you can't get to sign the petition in person and mail in, ask them to fill-out the online form (the hard copy is encouraged!)

Action #2. Tell the Congress: Write to Your Representatives and Senators

Send a hand written letter to your representative and senators and ask them to write and speak to the president to urge him to include funding for a Global Fund for Education in his fiscal year 2011 budget. View the December action sheet for a sample letter or use our action alert to send a quick electronic letter (a hand written one is more effective).

Action #3. Write a Letter to the Editor

ActionSend a letter to the editor of your state and local newspapers to inform your community about the need for U.S. leadership to create a Global Fund for Education.

Action #4. Strategize with your group to engage your members of Congress to call on the President.

Join together with your group to think about ways you mobilize members of Congress, the media, and your community to let President Obama know we want him to take leadership to create a Global Fund for Education. It's key to engage our broader communities — teachers, kids, faith communities, colleges and universities — to increase the power of our legislative work. You can engage them through education and action meetings, movie viewings, discussion groups, panels, act-outs with kids, letter writing, tabling, book clubs, and speaking engagements.

It's also critically important to educate our members of Congress on the Global Fund for Education so that they can engage the president; your members of Congress can publically support the Global Fund for Education, talk directly to president, write to the president, write an op-ed, or organize other members to communicate with the administration.

Action: Create a strategy with your group to mobilize community members to write to and call the president, to create media, and to get your member of Congress to weigh in with the president.
