1. The Administration increased the FY12 Global Fund appropriation above Congress' mark of $1.05 billion to $1.3 billion.

2. The Administration increased the FY12 GAVI appropriation above Congress' mark of $100 million to $130 million.

3. House Foreign Operations Subcommittee Report: "The Committee supports United States participation in the Global Partnership for Education and has provided authority to USAID to make a contribution to the Partnership in fiscal year 2013." The Administration pledged $20 million to the GPE in FY12; they have not yet made public their intentions regarding a FY13 contribution. Funding for GPE is part of the Basic Education account, which received $800 million in FY12. While the President's FY13 request included only $573 for Basic Education, both the House and Senate provided $800 million again for Basic Education in their FY13 bills.

4. House Foreign Operations Subcommittee Report: "The Committee strongly supports the Global Alliance for Vaccines Initiative (GAVI) and recognizes that a country's immunization coverage rate directly relates to child mortality and overall development of a country."

House Letter to the Administration: Three-Year Pledge to the GAVI Alliance

There were 62 co-signers to the letter led by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) to USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah asking for a 3-year pledge of $450 million to the GAVI Alliance for life-saving vaccines for children in developing countries.  

House Letter to Obama: Three-Year Pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

Congratulations! Your hard work got 101 representatives to sign a letter to the president asking him to make a three-year commitment of $6 billion to the Global Fund. The letter was initiated Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA). This fall, international donors will gather to make three-year funding commitments as part of the Global Fund’s replenishment process. As the founding contributor and largest donor to the Global Fund, a strong pledge from the U.S. will help leverage additional contributions from other donor countries. Historically, every $1 from the U.S. has been matched by $2 from other sources.
