IC 2012 Laser TalksLaser Talks About the International ConferenceUse these laser talks (elevator speeches) to help inspire your friends and allies to also attend the IC. Invite Current RESULTS MembersOne of the most powerful and inspirational events of my year as a RESULTS partner is the RESULTS International Conference, and this year’s will likely be the biggest ever. Have you thought about going? I know that going to the conference can feel like a huge investment of money and time, but it’s really an investment in ourselves. It will grow our power as individual advocates and as a group. Plus, the more people we send, the more congressional offices we can visit...and the more lives we improve and save! If we start making our plans early as a group, we can make sure that everyone has what they need to attend. This year’s conference will be in July and will coincide with the International AIDS Conference, the biggest AIDS advocacy conference in the world. This will definitely bring new energy and new opportunities to all of us, on top of all the great information, training, and friendship. Does the conference sound good to you? Would you like to talk more about the agenda, the logistics, or what you would need in order to make sure you can go? Invite Local AIDS ActivistsI’m going to Washington, DC this summer to end AIDS and I want you to join me. Like you, I’m passionate about ending AIDS. I combat AIDS and other global poverty issues by using advocacy skills I learned as a volunteer activist with the non-profit, RESULTS. RESULTS trains volunteers like me to effectively influence issues we care about by teaching us practical skills — like how to write a letter to the editor and get it printed or how to meet with members of Congress and get them to take action. Annually, RESULTS has a skills training conference and a congressional lobby day in Washington, DC. The conference brings together like-minded, passionate individuals like us to hear expert speakers, learn new skills, and to advocate for change on Capitol Hill. The really exciting part is that this July the RESULTS conference will overlap with the International AIDS Society conference in DC. AIDS 2012 will be a moment to bring together thousands of AIDS activists, people living with HIV/AIDS, and scientific experts to build political will to end AIDS. At these conferences, we’ll have great opportunities to hone our advocacy skills and we can make a difference in the fight against AIDS. The RESULTS conference alone is a great experience, but now, it can’t be missed! Will you join me in July? Invite U.S. Poverty-Focused ActivistsWhat do Washington, DC, thousands of advocates from around the world, and the end of poverty have in common? The 2012 RESULTS International Conference. RESULTS’ annual conference in Washington DC is always an exciting experience. Attendees leave the conference informed, trained, and inspired to use their voices for the end of poverty. I am especially excited about attending the RESULTS International Conference this year. Being an election year, we have a great opportunity to send a powerful message to lawmakers this year that it is time we made ending poverty a national priority. The RESULTS conference is timed perfectly to do this (July 21-24) — right before the general election kicks into high gear and lawmakers are open to bold ideas from constituents. This year’s conference will also have exciting new features like an Advocacy Boot Camp, national speakers like Marianne Williamson, and the chance to interact with tens of thousands of advocates in Washington for the huge International AIDS conference that same week. With serious threats to key anti-poverty measures like tax credits for low-income working families and Head Start, our voice is needed in Washington. Will you consider attending this year’s RESULTS International Conference with me? Invite Global Poverty ActivistsFor the first time, in 2011 research proved that we can nearly halt the transmission of HIV/AIDS from person to person. This is a breakthrough we've been fighting for since AIDS showed up in the 80s. Science Magazine named the "treatment as prevention" research the Innovation of the Year. But the moment seems to be lost on a lot of decision makers in the US around the world. Not only have we failed to seize the opportunity by mobilizing more resources, fewer resources are actually available to organizations like the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria, forcing them to tread water at a critical moment in time. The RESULTS International Conference and the International AIDS Conference in DC this July will be an opportunity to reverse that. The RESULTS conference will equip you to save lives and strengthen families around the globe. We will learn and we will act. And we'll join forces with thousands of AIDS activists around the globe to reverse the limp attitude of world leaders about our ability to end AIDS. You should really be part of it! Inviting Community AlliesDid you know that in 2011 research proved that we can nearly halt the transmission of HIV/AIDS from person to person? This is a breakthrough we've been fighting for since AIDS showed up in the 80s. Science Magazine named the "treatment as prevention" research the Innovation of the Year. It's been frustrating though because at the same time that we have this amazing news, our decision makers have failed to seize upon the opportunity that could save millions of lives and families. RESULTS is trying to broaden the base of activists and allies working together to change the poverty equation around the world on issues like AIDS and other diseases, education, microfinance. I think there's a lot we can do together in our community to make sure our Reps. and Senators support poverty interventions that work. One way for us to really take a step forward in our collaboration would be to get a group together to go to the RESULTS International Conference and the International AIDS Conference activities in July. Can I tell you a bit more about this? |
