Sister Giant at the RESULTS International Conference (Saturday July 18, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm ET)

Sister Giant, led by author and lecturer Marianne Williamson, will highlight poverty and inequality in the U.S. and around the world, and the need for engagement in our democracy. Williamson will be joined by session moderator Meredith Dodson (U.S. Poverty Campaigns Director, RESULTS), Linda Mafu (Head of Civil Society and Political Advocacy, Global Fund), and Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI, House of Representatives).

Conference Opening Celebration (Saturday July 18, 1:00 pm – 2:30pm ET)

Welcome to the International Conference! Together we’ll celebrate our 35th anniversary, look to our future, and plan for a weekend of action. We’ll hear from Executive Director Joanne Carter, renowned South African vocalist and advocate Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and some of our volunteer advocates at the heart of our movement.

Reaching the Unreached: Financing the Sustainable Development Goals with Equity (Monday July 20, 9:00am – 10:15am ET)

As the Millennium Development Goals conclude, the world is negotiating a new set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including the end of extreme poverty by 2030. On the heels of the Financing for Development Conference in Ethiopia, Shameran Abed (Director of Microfinance, BRAC), Gwen Hines (UK Executive Director, World Bank) and Alexia Latortue (Deputy Assistant Secretary, International Development Policy, U.S. Treasury) will discuss outcomes from the conference, the road to the UN summit to adopt the SDGs, and how to ensure the SDGs drive progress for the poorest.

Update from the Financing for Development Conference: A Conversation with Dr. Jeffrey Sachs (Monday July 20, 10:15 am – 11:00 am ET)

Renowned economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs will offer his perspective on the outcomes of the Financing for Development Conference, and the path to ending extreme poverty.

Keynote Remarks by Sister Simone Campbell (Monday July 20, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm ET)

Sister Simone Campbell, a noted speaker and educator on peace-building and economic justice issues, will speak about the work of the Nuns on the Bus and NETWORK to engage the public to speak out for a better world.
